State needs time to repair: Dr. SM Jahangir Alam

Dr. SM Jahangir Alam

State needs time to repair. And that time should be given to the current interim government. It will take time to clean up the long-standing mess. That time should be given. On August 25, the chief adviser of the interim government to the nation, Dr. Mohammad Yunus, said that when the election will be held, it is not a political decision of the government. The people of the country have to decide when they will see off this government. They took this responsibility at the call of students during the country's crisis. The government will fulfill this responsibility with all its might.
Meanwhile, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has asked the interim government for a very quick dialogue with the political parties regarding the National Assembly elections. He said that some people do not believe in reforms.Elections must be done within a limited time frame. He also said that the elected government will repair the state. He wants dialogue with the interim government. He also demanded to announce the election road map.
BNP's path is now clear. Now there is no political opponent. So it became very easy for them to score goals in empty field. They are not willing to give time to the current interim government.
But the Jamaat says they are willing to give time to the current interim government. This interim government is a product of the student movement. Dr. Yunus was chosen by them. After coming to the country Dr. Yunus told the students, "If you want me, listen to me, if not, send me away, I go back to my work".
Dr Yunus is basically not a politician. He does not seem to have any desire to do politics. As he has arranged the current advisory council, almost all of them are non-partisan. There is no danger that they will also join politics.
Besides, the democratic government in Bangladesh wants the international community. Already, many countries of the United Nations have expressed hope that the interim government will bring back democracy in Bangladesh with an election. So there is no doubt that the current government will hold elections within a certain period of time.
Meanwhile, the state reform is being talked about. BNP says that people's government or elected government will reform the state. State reform I or we have been seeing since independence. Sometimes one-party rule, sometimes military rule, I have seen democratic rule, and in the last 15 and a half years I have seen one-man rule.
The fortunes of this nation have not benefited much from the blood-earned independence. Rather, we as a nation have been neglected, humiliated and deprived. Although the country became independent due to the demand of democracy, this nation could not enjoy the taste of democracy.
In the name of democracy, you have seen autocracy, military system and dictatorship in this country. People of this country want to eat and sleep in peace. And it has not even become 53 years of independence. Bribery, corruption and looting have become institutionalized in this country.
Politicians have become owners of houses and cars by smuggling the country's money abroad. He built a mountain of money in foreign banks. Recently, the student movement has seen support from rickshaw pullers, daily wage laborers or laborers. Rickshaw drivers of Dhaka risked their lives to support and encourage the student movement.
What's more, the rickshaw driver also died in police firing. We have seen their joy after August 5. People from all sections of the society supported the students' movement. He stood by the students with whatever he could.
The effect of severe floods in the country is still not over. Water coming from the neighboring country India is still causing severe flooding in the south-eastern part of the country. About 4 crore people are affected by flood in 9 districts. Social media shows bodies of women and children floating in water. This is a humanitarian disaster.
The student society has come to the field with the help of the flood victims. Starting with small children who have extended a helping hand or are giving whatever they can. It is hoped that all political and social organizations will extend a helping hand in this humanitarian disaster in the country.
And we hope that the political parties will do the same. But instead of doing that, he is preoccupied with thinking about power. Political parties are busy with when and how elections should be held, when the election road map will be announced or should be done.
Do political parties want to enjoy the fruits of student or student movement so quickly? Students have formed an interim government of their choice. Dr Yunus is an international personality. He was entrusted by the students to temporarily repair the state. Also the armed forces are working.
Bribery, corrupt, money launderers are being caught. Those who have done apolitical politics in the name of politics are not exempted. Dhara is the political brokers. A clean campaign is underway.Debt defaulters, money launderers, bank robbers, stock market scams, embezzlers are all being caught. They are given ten days for a thief and one day for a householder. Can political parties do these things in power or is it possible?
The political parties that are present in our country have been tested. However, the country will be run by politicians. Why so much haste? If you have endured fifteen and a half years, wait a few more days. So much volatility? Wait and see if the interim government can repair the state.
BNP says they will repair the state. Can they repair the state so easily? Foreign debt in the country is now about 11 billion dollars. Internal debt is about eight and a half lakh crore. About 109 billion dollars have been smuggled out of the country in the last 15 and a half years. The country's economy is now crippled. No money in the bank.
In this situation, can BNP fix the country's economy overnight? Everyone wants an elected or democratic government. But before that, the people of the country want rice. Dr. Yunus has international acceptance. The current government's finance adviser is also an economist. The current interim government is trying to stabilize the country's economy. And it can be said that the state repair work is doing well apparently. So let them do the work of repairing the state for a few days.
